Biographical Notes

PIERRE SAINT-LAURENT, CFA, CAIA, FRM, CFE

Mr. Saint-Laurent is president of AssetCounsel Inc., a financial services consultancy serving the strategic analysis, product development and marketing/ communications needs of retail, private wealth and institutional money managers and distributors.  Clients include major financial institutions, mutual fund manufacturers, investment managers, financial services distributors, and alternative investment firms. 

He was formerly vice-president at two Canadian financial services organizations.  He has spearheaded the development of asset allocation software, leading to the widely used and acclaimed Asset Allocation Analyst and Benchmarker software; he has led the development of a segregated funds initiative; and he has overseen the rebranding of a financial services firm following an acquisition.  He was closely involved in the management and deployment of the first widely available hedge fund in Canada.

He teaches at HEC Montreal (the University of Montreal Business School) in Finance, at the undergraduate, graduate, and MBA levels.  He was a research economist at Hydro-Quebec.

 

He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Economics from the University of Montreal, with doctoral studies in Economics at the university of California at Berkeley as well as a Diploma in Business Administration from HEC Montreal.  He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and is a member of the CFA Institute's Disciplinary Committee, as well as a former CFA Examination Grader.  He obtained the Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) designation in 2004, and is the Canada Chapter Head of the CAIA Association, for which he is involved both in curriculum development and grading.  He also holds the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) designations. He is the Co-Chair of the Quebec Committee of AIMA Canada, the Canadian Chapter of the Alternative Investment Management Association. He is a past member of the Institute of Corporate Directors and a member of the Canadian Pensions and Benefits Institute.

Mr. Saint-Laurent writes regularly in trade publications, and participates actively in industry conferences and events as chair, moderator, and speaker. He is a member of the advisory panel of the MARHedge 2011 Hedge Fund Conference.
